Robotech DVD news ...

According to Anime News Network, ADV will be discontinuing their release of ROBOTECH on DVD. (Check out the original story here.)

Hmm, I wonder, who might be standing by to pick it up? Who might want the rights to ROBOTECH on DVD? Who's been snapping up what ADV's been dropping lately?

Methinks we might want to have our eyes and ears open during San Diego Comicon weekend.

  • might be warner brothers that's going to pick it up next.

  • That's an interesting suggestion. On the one hand, I'd wonder if Warner would want it, seeing how ADV released umpteen different versions of the show over and over again -- even with it now officially out of print, I don't think you'd have a hard time buying Robotech on DVD if you wanted to.

On the other hand, Warner would hope that their movie would do well enough to encourage even more demand for the series. So they might want to have those eggs in their basket, now that they seem to be available.

I think with the movie still in such an early state of preproduction, it's still likely that Funimation, HG's previous New Best Friend, will be the one to snatch up the original TV series rights. But you know, Lynn, you may be on to something ...

  • we were talking about this on Rt.com, if warner picks up the rights from ADV, we may see the series get yet another remastering into HD bluray. It's pretty much the only thing ADV hasn't already done.

  • I don't really understand the concept of blu-ray, how is it quality wise?
I'm just asking because I don't really think it differs from regular HD.

  • "Blu-ray disk" is what you call the actual disk that a HD (high-definition) movie comes on.

It's akin to how "DVD" is what you call the disk that a SD (standard-definition) movie comes on.
