Cheap DVDs
Just thought someone might want to know ADV is having a Halloween sale. Uncut Japanese Southern Cross & Mospeada box sets for $15 each, original Robotech single discs for $3 apiece, Legacy Collection boxes for $11 each, and Robotech Remastered boxes for $10 apiece. They even have all the box sets (Legacy & Remastered) in stock. So if you're missing any Robotech episodes, this would be an excellent time to fill out the collection.
If you don't need any Robotech, there's always Megazone 23 Parts 1 - 3 for $5 a disc and Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's classic fantasy mecha series Aura Battler Dunbine for $4 per disc. Shame about the latter show; ADV can't even GIVE those discs away -- they've tried -- but it's easily one of Tomino's best, right up there with Zeta Gundam. And you know who directed the Dunbine English dub? Why, it's our old pal Carl Macek. And boy does it sound like a Macek dub. (Take that as you will ...)

Thanks for showing that... but it ended up making me drop $48 for Mospeada, Southern Cross, and Megazine pts 2 & 3.

Yeah, I just picked up Mospeada and Southern Cross, too. That is just too good of a price to pass up.
I hear that Southern Cross is quite a bit different than the Robotech version. Is this true?

I really don't know where to start on the differences between Robotech Masters and the original Southern Cross -- it's almost an entirely different show. The show is set on a second generation colony world (with two moons, as you actually see once or twice). The ships that arrive from space are actually coming from its mother colony, Liberty. The character we know as Zor Prime is just a brainwashed human who was captured during an attack on the moon Aluce -- that's why in "Triumvirate" Zor Prime is walking around with a document on the Aluce base -- it's where the original character was stationed, and Nova was just trying to jog his memory. The odd thing is sometimes it's character subplots about the lead girls that are cut out -- there's a whole bit of business with a dress that's ripped out of, I *think*, "Danger Zone," and there's a whole bit about Dana wanting a promotion so that she can score a newer model of Hovertank that is chopped out of "Southern Cross." Can you imagine such things being hacked out of Macross? You'd practically have no show. It's is probably why so much of Masters winds up coming off so bland.
