Two Days of Bruce, Part 1

Life's funny. I suppose I probably shouldn't have let my cat out of the bag last week, but I really wanted someone to just kick me in the butt and get me to edit this thing and put it up on the internet for all you fine folks out there. So, someone did. Five days ago, pal Evan shot me a quick text to tell me that Meadows was trying to steal my thunder, yo. Or something. Well, that worked about as well as anything else would have. So here you go: a little under a half hour with Robotech Invid War: Aftermath writer/artist Bruce Lewis. THEN, you can turn right around on Sunday and call in and pitch your OWN questions to Bruce Lewis on Space Station Liberty, hosted by the aforementioned Chris Meadows.

Many thanks to Bruce Lewis for taking the time not only to sketch up the above Lancer & Sera piece -- for all the series' faults, I love Lewis's take on Lancer and Sera, both visually and as characters -- but to talk to me for an evening. And apologies to both him and the rest of you out there for sitting on this for a little over a month. I hope you all enjoy!

The Roboblog Chronicles: Episode 16 - Break Out The Popcorn

Yes, the Roboblog Chronicles saga continues this week with discussion of the live action movie in the works at Warner Bros. In this episode I get really hot and bothered about the prospect of them screwing up the Rick and Minmei relationship, which may seem kind of odd until you really think about how that relationship works -- or rather, how it fails to work. It's actually a pretty interesting thing, fragile and precious, like a snowflake.

No, I'm not on any medication right now. Why do you ask?

• Vincent McHenry, my fellow contributing writer to The Art of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, would like me to mention the Robotech Photo Contest running at Robotech.com. I guess it's his brainchild, and it looks like it could be a lot of fun, so pull out your toys and home-made props and costumes and stuff and go have yourself some fun. I'd enter, except that I think it'd look hinky if I won anything, and besides, I think I've got enough on my plate right now ...
  
  
• Roger Harkavy lets us know that the Aoshima reengineerings and repaintings of the Toynami Masterpiece Alphas under the Mospeada banner in Japan have been pushed back to October. Which is fine, because that probably means they'll be all the better, right?
  
  
• The Space Station Liberty talkcast has lined up its next two rounds of guests. On September 14, Chris will be talking to Tommy Yune and Kevin Siembieda, presumably about the recently completed reacquisition of the ROBOTECH RPG license by Palladium Books.
  
  Then, September 16, Chris will have on Aftermath writer/artist Bruce Lewis, which means I'd better get my damn act together and get my Bruce Lewis interview posted this week. I guess the saying is true: he who hesitates, loses.
  
  Of course, in the end, you all win, because you get to hear two Bruce Lewis interviews within mere days of one another. How about that, ladies and gentlemen?

The next episode of Chris "Robotech Master" Meadows's Space Station Liberty Talkcast has been penciled in -- Friday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Tommy Yune and Kevin McKeever will be on live from San Diego -- I guess, to repeat all the news they fed the live audience at their Comic-Con International panel earlier in the day (the Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles panel is from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Friday) for those of us who spent all our trip money on Anime Expo can't be there. I hope if there is any real news, it's something more substantial than, "We found more hilarious animation mistakes to package with the Special Edition!"

Space Station Liberty - Chris lines up a new interview!

Chris Meadows's Space Station Liberty call-in show will have its first big ROBOTECH series guest in some time this coming Saturday, June 23 -- Greg Finley, series writer and voice actor (Captain Gloval, Supreme Commander Leonard). Show starts at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

• Well, someone's going to get to look at The Art of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles early. This weekend Stone Bridge Press will be unveiling it for attendees at the Alternative Press Expo. According to Robotech.com, in-store dates are forthcoming. Probably pretty quick here, unless they look that one copy over and find it riddled with errors ...


• Also, in case you haven't heard, the Shadow Chronicles soundtrack is on iTunes, in case you aren't interested in having it as a tangible object.


• Next weekend, Kevin McKeever is going to be in China. Bring us back something nice, Kev!


• And Harmony Gold has signed a number of new deals with companies worldwide. In the wake of this, Chris Meadows talked this afternoon with ROBOTECH's brand manager at FUNimation, Jonathan Brands. Tommy Yune was also there. Listen here, like I'm doing as I type this.


• Revealed at the tail end of the aforementioned interview was the fact that the Aoshima Mospeada toys will have more differences under the hood than just the joints, even if they will be identical to the Masterpiece Alphas on the surface, and that George Sohn of Toynami will be talking to Aoshima and CM's (Beagle, too?) about bringing their Mospeada products into the States in an official way. Hey, if it means they'll be less expensive for me, the end consumer, I'm all for it!


• Oh, and yes, this is the 300th post on this blog. Phew!

Saturday, April 14 @ 6:00 p.m. EDT, Chris Meadows will welcome Carl Macek, producer and story editor of the original ROBOTECH television series and consultant on Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles to his Space Station Liberty talkcast show. Macek also headed up one of the early anime home video companies, Streamline Pictures, directed many of the English adaptations they produced, and has since worked on projects for ADV Films as a writer and ADR director. His most recent anime credit is as one of the writers working on the English adaptation of the hit shonen action TV series Bleach.

Methinks this is one installment of Space Station Liberty you're going to want to listen to live. When the fans think of people involved in the production of the ROBOTECH TV series to half-jokingly refer to as the "Robotech Masters," Macek's usually first on the list.
